TIL DEATH DO US PART.
DEATH VALLEY'S LITTLE BROTHER
Looks can be quite deceiving, we all know this from experience. At first glance, this bunny looks like it's innocent and the runner up for cutest right next to Bambi. But the fact of the matter is that this "Bunny" is the logo for the DVLB and holy hannah they're as bad ass as they come.
This lovely little Cafe is right up on King street, probably the best place to be. Honey, if you want to get noticed you need to be on King street (I signed myself up for that one) because it's the best place to be. King street is becoming a big deal now and if you're good at what you do business wise, you'll know where to put your business.
Right when you walk in the place, you can marvel at the decor that just puts you in Awe and just makes you think. It has a rustic element that is very intriguing but not too rustic. The staff are great, full of life and if Bad ass had a person to go with it, I would direct you right to them. This is completely besides the point but how poignant they are and how they dress just marvels me: these people are cool.
Now this place ain't just for coffee oh hell no. There's tea too! Just kidding, I am talking about the liquour bar and all the great desserts. And if I wasn't illegal and a lightweight that would be my first reason to go, but for now just tea.
LOW DOWN:
So I ordered one iced tea with a lemon cranberry scone which was $6. It was local- you know how I feel about that- and it was fresh. Not the nestea stuff that makes you fall into a pool no no, but that would have been cool to say the least.. The scone was delicious, I probably inhaled it #classy. It was healthy and I loved it, so I could sleep that night guilt free
WHAT'S MA BEEF:
Okay so love da place but it almost seems too alternative? I love that but I feel like a geek buying a scone.. I'll get over it though. Other than that, it was pretty cool I guess..

OKAY, so I know I haven't been on top of this since I have been so busy, but don't hate the playa hate the game. I was out of town plus I got my wisdom teeth out so I have my reasons believe it or not #realtalk. Having ice cream for breakfast actually got boring after a few days and I was starting to get cabin fever with not being able to leave the house. I could only eat apple sauce, yogurt, ice cream and soup. But no more of this depressing old people food talk, it will put you right to sleep.
I am sorry for being so behind, I swear I will be more on top of this. It's not you it's me..

AND THE TRUTH COMES OUT
THE TRUTH WILL SET US FREE
Okay so this blog was meant for a class project and this was basically my baby. But Now, it's a completely different story and things will change. You will feel things you haven't felt before, okay wait I am still talking about the food, what did you think I was talking about?
I want to talk more about food and make it more simple. I am sure you've all been enjoying my paragraphs that might have put you to sleep but that's all going to change now. Now I want to talk about not only restaurants but also recipes and what food is great for us.
We all need to switch things up, maybe that goes for more than just my writing but change is gouda.
You might like it more you might not, but that's just some food for thought.
CAFE CHAOS
COFFEE SHOPS
So as we all know there are so many coffee places around town and I am talking a lot. From Uptown Kitchener to downtown Waterloo, this a coffee shop every few blocks or even closer. I sometime wonder where we developed this need to have so many coffee shops so close together, but then I realize people have taste and are pick just like MEH.
Finding good coffee in some places is a pain in the neck because most of the time the food is great but the coffee full out sucks. Now we can't have that now can we? I am not too much of a coffee drinker myself because I stay up til 3 in the morning not knowing what to do with myself. I could start with the good stuff though, the best place to start really.
My friends, the best place to start would have to be the Death Valley Cafe on King street. Just a heads up though, there's no death there.. I don't know if you're into that, I don't want to know to be quite frank and that's all I have to say about that.

VIVA ITALIA
VA BENE
Now this post is about many things like being frugal, fabulous and eating good food. We've come to the right place for just that and I know you will love it. For grabbing a bite on the go for lunch, this place is perfect because they have such a great selection of everything you love. The location is really genius because it's uptown which is great for a walk but if you're far away it is totally worth the drive. Quite fancier than your average grocery store so it is quite the treat. Time to treat yourself people.
CHOW:
Medium Pasta with pesto, spanakopita, chocolate cake and lemon san pellegrino
LOW DOWN:
I can't help but go here religiously, I simply can't and I just won't. The food there is amazing and it raises the standards of local grocery stores for sure. The best part is that you don't have to have a sit down meal and feel bad about it because it was fast food. Another great thing about it is that it's keeping a nice family tradition going and that says a lot.
As soon as you walk in, you know you've come to the right place. I love the set up and how it's easy to find what you are looking for. Although I do love how it's organized I find it really crowded all the time, that's great for business but not when I am so hungry I'll eat all da german chocolate. All the staff are great but one thing I keep finding when I go is that some of the cashiers really messed up on bagging my things, like why are my my veggies underneath the milk :S
Health wise, I probably could have gone without the chocolate cake.. shoulda woulda coulda. For eating out and about, I loved what I ate and there's nothing to worry about health wise. So no problems in this department here.
Price wise, That was around $10 which is pretty decent considering all that I bought. What's great is that you can choose what size you want and it's all up to you #youhaveoptions. Of course there are other things that are quite expensive at Vincenzos when you're buying all your groceries but when you're simply picking up a bite it's affordable.
WHAT'S MA BEEF:
It's a really big high traffic area which I find a bit of a pain, when you want food.. you want food. There's also a lot of plastic and wrapping that goes into everything you order so it would be nice if they had less of that because it all makes up so much garbage.

MY TWO CENTS
SAVIN FOR LATER
This my friends is Suze Orman, a financial genius and I just thought her picture was so fitting I couldn't resist. Many of my reviews on the food have been quite pricey and so I thought it would be a good Idea to review a place that doesn't quite break the bank. Here's where it gets good.
Buying food at local markets are small grocery stores can help make eating out easy. One of my favourites would have to be Vincenzos because of the great variety they have and how it's a great place for lunch.
Eating out is quite the luxury and I am always grateful for every time I have the chance. Eating at markets and what not makes it more convenient for everyone so why not?

FRAT BURGER
THE COMMITMENT
Now, I am calling out for all you meat lovers cause this is what we are known for. So this is Frat burger, one of the few places I go to regularly because I am in love with it. Just a little note is that the owners of Ethel's came together to make this haven for you and me, thanks boys. It got it's name from the fact that it has the prime location for business, right on university hence the name frat. It's a great space and the staff there are all a bunch of sweet hearts. Luckily, you will get two things out of this post, 1) you will get a review so great, I might just see you at Frat 2) My confession for how I eat like a champ. No judging here, but heck I will never know.
CHOW:
One regular burger with: Mayo, Lettuce, Guacamole, Bacon and Cheddar cheese
Side of Fries and a Chocolate milkshake
LOW DOWN:
Remember when I said we demolish food? That's exactly what I did, I demolished that burger like the bad ass I am in 2 minutes ( I timed it...). The burgers at frat are so delicious, once you have one bite you just have to finish it all. One thing I particularly enjoy about the burgers at frat is the size. At the works if you go, I find that the size is too big and I over it #nomegusta or at the chill grill it's too greasy. Where was I, ahh yes so the burger was spectacular, so fresh and all the toppings were just genius. I loved the guacamole even though it may have slid out and fallen on my lap.. All the extra stuff I had on made it one hell of a burger and it's what I always get.
The fries were delicious and having known the owners, I know for fact that it was all freshly cut up that day which I really like. When you know food has been frozen, I feel like we see it differently and I really respect when things are fresh and delicious. I think there is a certain image that Frat has because of how fresh it is and that should be recognized #thereyougo .I also loved the chocolate milkshake, it was heavenly and it's a lovely once in awhile treat.
From the moment you walk in, you know you're in good hands and the folks there are so genuine and they take care of you. Health wise, It is eating out but everything is fresh and prepared right in front of you and I love that. I wouldn't say eat there everyday but you don't have to feel guilty after you leave for eating there. I dig the restaurant presentation because it has this classic old school feel to it but it's still modern at the same time, really you would have to see for yourself. Like I said before, food was amazing and it came in this cute basket in some waxy paper.
Everything has a price sadly.. That whole dinner was around $20 which makes complete and total cents here #witty. I had a lot of extras on my burger and plus I had a milkshake so you can see why it cost that much. Like I said and will say again, it's worth it here because it's a local business. For a student though the pricing might be a little iffy though but you don't always have the get the extras
WHAT'S MA BEEF:
I feel like people will find this quite pricey and that's a bit of an issue. I can understand that it is an experience but we all have bills to pay. Also, I am not a big fan of the TVs in there because why would I watch TV when I am going out and it's quite distracting. I suppose there isn't much you can do about that considering the target audience varies.

BURGERS BABY
HAMBURGER LOVE
You might be wondering why this guy is in a hamburger bed, but I really think the real question is: Why aren't you in a hamburger bed? Hamburgers are the most heavenly food on the planet, what is life without a hamburger? Well I'd rather not think about that #sappy but let's think about the one and only hamburger.
So many people have claimed to have made the hamburger and I can see why because you'd probably be 1) awesome and 2) have a holiday named after you. Heck, even I would say I invented that even though I probably wouldn't get away with it.
Now there are many places to get burgers like Wendy's, Mcdonald's, Harvey's etc. But once you've had a real burger, you won't be able to go back to your old ways. If you really want to treat yourself you should go to the Chill Grill, the Works and Frat Burger. I am not talking about any ordinary burgers now, come on I am honest here. These burgers take burgers to a whole other LEVEL, and once you're there you won't want to go back to your typical hamburger.
Don't believe me? I'll show ya.

SALSATERIA CHICOS
ME GUSTA
HOLA, kay so I know this is a bit of hike, did I mention this was in Guelph? It's worth it guys #trust. I just had to explore downtown Guelph for University next year, my mum knew the owner and next thing I know I am eating a burrito.. The restaurant is run by my mum's friend from Chile and I think it's great how he is representing some great culture downtown. The location is prime and it basically advertises for itself. I know next year I'll have no problem putting on that freshmen fifteen with the food here. I might just live there next year and you'll see why.
CHOW:
Beef Burrito, Salad, Empanadas and OJ
LOW DOWN:
Ay caramba that was so delicious, don't judge me but I put an extra empanada in my purse for the road. All of the food just reminded me of Chile, being with family and reminiscing #lifeisgouda. As soon as you walk through the door, you know you've come to the right place and we all love that. The set up is super neat, there are like these egg shaped booths and then a stage at the end for live music. The staff is super nice and heck, they took pretty good care of us. The food took a little while, but I guess you have to wait for great things #lifelessons.
The food was absolutely delicious, we all know that and the customer service was excellent too. That "You're at home feeling" was something I felt right when I came in and I dig that. Oh and I liked seeing the owner there and meeting him because it says a lot when the owner is there. I think it says a lot about the business when the owner wants to spend time there and meet new people and I am all about that. Health wise I could tell everything was made fresh, thus this is why it took so long. Presentation wise for the food and the restaurant was lovely, except the front door makes it extremely drafty in the winter time.
Everything has a price, now what was it? Well well that was around $17 and I know a tad bit pricey but hear me out. I did eat a burrito, a salad and empanadas with some OJ so it makes complete sense. Like I have said before, I love supporting a local business and the quality was great so hah, it's worth it.
WHAT'S MA BEEF:
But one thing I didn't like was that in the burrito there was lettuce, and we all know how I feel about this. See there is an art to lettuce and even a salad, you can't mess with genius am I right? So what happened was that there was lettuce in the burrito, and since it was a Beef burrito, the lettuce got all warm and ugh no me gusta eso. Warm lettuce is like.. eating a spoon with a fork, you just don't do that folks. Other than that it was quite delicious I must say.

SOME SPANISH EATS
SPANISH 101 HOMBRE
This is probably my favourite part of all this, yes classy sandwiches, chinese food and the good old schnitzel was nice but this is where we get down to business folks. Spanish food is absolutely amazing and yes I am extremely extremely biased but that's quite alright, if and when you try it for yourself you will believe me and love me #welcome. This is also a great chance to educate you on what type of spanish food there is, we don't all eat tacos and drink cerveza, no no there's much more to it.
I am part chilean, just letting you know so you can trust my credibility, don't say I never did anything for you. This once picky kid knows what's good, come on there's enchiladas to seviche to chorizo to tortillas and the list goes on. Yes, I know that's a lot to take in and you might still be staring at the llama above and this is okay.
There are so many great spanish restaurants around KW and you should all try them out. I can't write about all of them (sadly) but I can give you deets about them so you can go for yourself. Casa Salsa, Holy Guacamole and Marisol just to name a few.

METRO
REUNITED AND IT FEELS SO GOOD
HALO! Okay so I am actually so excited for this one because this is one of my favourite restaurant, it's going to be a gouda one. Metro, when you walk in it feels like seeing an old friend that you haven't seen in forever, reunited and it feels so good? (and you knew that it would) The staff there always make you feel at home, and that's what always brings me back there besides their amazing food. Everyone loves to feel remembered, at home and it's nothing short of that. The food is a whole other thing, I'd say don't even get me started but well, I kind of have to get started at some point.
CHOW:
Schnitzel with mashed potats, carrots, beets and a caesar salad, with some OJ
LOW DOWN:
I think I went into a food coma after that oh my dear god, that was delicious. I am sorry that I made this post sound way more exciting than I had hoped it would be, there's just so much good I have almost nothing to rant about. Now down to brass tacks, the customer service is absolutely outstanding and I will always love going there and that is that. For Restaurant presentation, I really dig it because it looks classic and kind of old school? I really don't like it when a place is too fancy and you walk in feeling like you should run out and change (You know how I do).
Sadly, everything has a price and I think I can speak for all us when I say I wish it didn't. That fine dining folks was roughly around $14 and it was so worth it. I consider myself to be pretty frugal and I obviously don't want to break the bank every time I want to go out to eat, I consider that to be a reasonable price. I find I will pay more for quality and not quantity because I really love when I know how and where my food is made. Eating locally and supporting local business' is something I find so important, darn right I support it. For food presentation, I don't really think there is anything that should or needs to be changed because it's classic and that's how I like it, some people might find it a little outdated though.
Taste ou lala, everything was delicious and I loved all of it. Health wise it was great because of how it was somewhat simple. I didn't feel guilty after eating so that is most likely a good sign. All in all I loved it.
WHAT'S MA BEEF:
Okay so here's my beef and here's the deal, I love this restaurant and how it's a classic place to go. What I would change around is the presentation a bit, make it look a tad bit newer? Feels like I am almost making up excuses to rant #whitegirlprobs. Other than that, I wish it was a bit bigger so more people could enjoy it with me, but I wouldn't switch the space to compromise the Location. But why change what's already so good right?

CHANGE IS GOUDA
JUST SOME CHANGES
I am just going to change a few things about the blog now, just how I write things, formatting and all that good stuff. This will just make it easier to follow and maybe it will be better. I am going to switch how I write about the restaurant so instead of REVIEW it will be LOW DOWN and instead of LOW DOWN it will now be WHAT'S MY BEEF. REVIEW is just too formal, I don't like that and I am so glad I got that off my chest. Then I think WHAT'S MY BEEF is better so I can get right to it about what needs to change and a bit on what I like. Just thought I'd let you know.

GERMAN JOY
GERMAN JOY
No friends, my blog did not just become what not to wear but it was hard for me to let go of that dream. After much deliberation I have chosen to talk about german food and heck I will even throw in a bit of history so you can say you did something today. So hah here's my two cents, have fun.
As we all know, Kitchener and even Waterloo is a very German because of the great German population we had through immigration and what not. We have an enormous german population here and there are some cute little German places that exist around town. My background is actually german and for those who know me I am not joking it's almost literally in my name. So, to get in touch with my German roots, we are going off to Metro on Victoria.
Metro is so cute, it puts cabbage patch kids to shame and this is the honest truth. It's not that big which is nice and it has that nice family feel that I love. But before I say too much we'll have to wait for the review, until then.

Dragon court
DRAGON COURT
This my friends will not be easy to blog about so brace yo selves. So uhh where do I begin, okay so this picture is from google (because I couldn't find one picture for the dragon food court that wasn't just their menu), but that's okay. Dragon Court, alrighty so this restaurant has been uptown for as long as I can remember and it doesn't like a day over ancient. It's not my first choice for Chinese but hey I promised the good the bad and the ugly. When you come on in you can admire some cute chinese decor that's really nice but just looks really outdated. Another thing is that when you come in, it appears to be that absolutely no one is there but don't worry, there was or else I wouldn't have much to say. Looks are almost everything these days and although the Dragon court does not look as inviting as it could it has a very cute family that runs it. There's more to come, nothing to fear though, it's not a food fiasco.
CHOW:
Shrimp Lo Mein: Stir fried shrimp with thin noodles, broccoli, carrots and alfalfa sprouts
Pork Dumplings: Pork, onions and pastry
Vegetarian Spring rolls: alfalfa sprouts, mushrooms, carrots
Beed Lo Mein: Stir fried beef with thin noodles, broccoli, carrots and alfalfa sprouts
Green Tea: Traditional herbal tea
REVIEW:
Considering how much of a picky eater I am, this order was a success. Oh and I was ordering for two, my exchange student ya crazy. She had never had chinese food and It was uptown so I just thought hey what the heck let's go. I am in love with shrimp, I would marry it trust me so I had to order shrimp. The veggies were good too but I wasn't a fan of the carrots, they were big, not tasty and awkward and oh no me gusta. My exchange student really liked her Beef Lo Mein and we split both the dishes, they were quite delicious. I found it a tad bit greasy though, that's one thing I would definitely change for sure. Healthy changes where they can be made are really important so I would change that for sure.
I also really love dumplings and I have had them so many times in different places. At the Dragon court, they were supposed to be steamed and I thought they were really poorly done. I felt like I needed to wrap it up in a napkin and then eat it because it was really oily and greasy. On the other hand, I really liked the spring rolls, they were really tasty and my exchange student loved it, so it obviously had to be great.
#RANT okay, so I have one beef and no no no it's not about the beef lo mein, it my friends is about the tea. I didn't like the system they had set up for tea, there's the tea pot (Where is she going with this) and then there's the itty bitty cup that could probably hold, I don't know an EGG. When you drink tea at the dragon court they charge you per cup (Yes the cup that could hold the equivalent of an egg) and I just thought that was ridiculous. Okay #Rantsover .
After all that, it was $18, not too shabby.
LOW DOWN:
Okay friends, so not my favourite place in the whole wide world but we had a great time. Oh and I forgot to mention they had a lazy susan so they won my heard with their wit. The food needs to be less greasy and prepared a bit better. My biggest beef is with the customer service and this folks is a whole other story.
Before I began to blog about the Dragon Court, I chose to google and provide some history about the restaurant but as you can see I found nothing, nein, zip, nada. BUT (wait for it) I found other reviews on the restaurant, I would say see for yourself but it's not that pretty. Basically, everyone said that they would never go back there, that it looked abandoned and that it was really bad. I honestly think the biggest problem with the restaurant is the customer service and this can be fixed, no worries. the presentation needs to be brought up to date, a positive energy is needed and staff that are ready to change it up. I don't think I need to call Gordon Ramsay just yet to fix this place, the coast is clear.

CHINESE FOOD
We all know where this food comes from, like really if you don't I would have to give you two things, 1) A lecture and 2) a map for gods sake. Growing up I had a hate love relationship with chinese food, I thought it was fun to go out for chinese food but picking it was so HARD it was like it was a life decision. I think with chinese food the fun part is how many choices you have, but really there's no need to be overwhelmed.

( I couldn't resist the opportunity to use Jackie Chan in this)
Canada as we all know doesn't really have a particular cuisine or customs when it comes to food, so the best part is that when we go eat its like we go on a trip by simply eating. We have the chance to travel when we go out to eat without having to pack our bags.

Princess Cafe, the home of Cheeses Murphy and many other savoury panini's, the classier one of the sandwiches. When you walk through the door, you're surrounded by so many great things, that I have to practically list them off. Let's get down to brass tacks, when you're going to a new place the first you want is feel is that you want to be there, that you're not just another customer and that they care. There has to be good music playing because music and food go together hand in hand, they make us feel great
things,so it's the best of both worlds. You came for more than just the food so you want to get more than the food Am I right? I personally love going into a place with nick nacks and cool furniture because I find that the vibe the Restaurant gives me is essential for a solid time.
CHOW:
California Veggie: Avocado, roasted Red pepper, tomato and spinach with cilantro pesto, roasted garlic mayo and sharp Cheddar cheese (extra Turkey*) on Multigrain bread
Dessert: Peach Pie with extra whipped cream added.
Drink: Chai Tea
REVIEW:
I know the crime I committed, I ordered a california veggie and I added turkey, so what? I have to shake things up, keep people on their toes. So, Coming from a very picky eater, I had to take out the tomatoes because they're my least favourite of the veggies and when I have the choice I would rather not. We really are lucky that we get to have choices when we get to go eat out, it's a privilege and we are lucky. Anyway, I loved the combination of veggies: Avocado, roasted Red pepper and spinach, these are all golden and my favourites so it's already gotten a fork in my heart. Overdoing the veggies is something I really don't like, because I really could have ordered a salad if I wanted to (#Rants). The extras: Pesto, roasted garlic mayo, Multi-grain bread and sharp Cheddar cheese. I can die now happily and go to heaven because that was honestly so delicious, if my heart could smile it would.
Now for the dessert and drink, I am a sucker for pie because you could seriously eat so many different types of pie what's not to love? Peach is my favourite and the fact that there was extra whipped cream? Oh they read my mind I swear. The Tea was nice too to go with the pie it was a match made in heaven.
Everything was delectable and I have zero complaints about the food, it was made exactly how I wanted it but it was without them asking me it was like they just knew! All in all, amazing but now it gets real, how much was it? That fine little date was around $12 which I find extremely worth it for two very important reasons. 1) All the food was prepared with TLC (tender loving care) right in front of me and it was all fresh which is a huge bonus 2) The Princess Cafe is a local business and considering how important those are, I love supporting them so no problem there.
LOW DOWN:
So like I said I would be looking at Customer Service and atmosphere, Restaurant presentation, Prices, Food Presentation, Taste and Ingredients For Customer Service and Atmosphere I thought it was amazing, super friendly and just from that I want to go back. Restaurant presentation was lovely and I loved how each table is different with its own theme. For Prices I thought it was reasonable and realistic, I wouldn't pay any less. Food Presentation, I loved how each plate, mug, napkin and glass is different because when I think about it, not everything has to match or look all the same, different is nice too As for the Taste and Ingredients, Everything was delicious and the ingredients were to the max healthy, I wouldn't change a thing
RATE THE DATE:
I really loved the restaurant and I can't think of anything constructive to say? Maybe if the space was a little bigger but I can see how that is hard to control. Having said everything, I loved the food and I would go back hands down, the people there make me want to go back and I would recommend it to anyone. I give it four and a half forks out of five because there is always something that can be fixed.

The sandwich, in every kids lunch bag since bread has been sliced and plastic bags have been created. Not trying to get all philosophical or anything, but you get out of it what you put in it, so bread and butter just isn't going to cut it anymore. Sandwiches and I are like two peas in a pod because hey in case you didn't notice I have always been an extremely picky eater. I know what you're thinking, this kid is probably spoiled and ate sugary cereal like it was nobodies business but in fact you're all mistaken.
They say a picture says a thousand words, I can think of only one and that is: DIVA. I just never liked eating something new or unfamiliar, you know how it goes. You don't like it and then you're stuck with it in your mouth and you obviously have to eat it or your parents will have to whip out the old " where are your manners?" or "The kids in Africa". Yes the kids in Africa.. Those were my parents alright.
But this is besides the point, We are talking about sandwiches here! Sandwiches: PB and Js, the sandwich of our childhood years where it could be eaten at any time of the day, anywhere and it was still acceptable. PB and Js will always be my favourite, yes Ode to PB and Js but it's time for some Classy sandwiches (two words I never thought could fit in a sentence together). And we all know where to go for those, that would just so happen to be the Princess Cafe, 46 King st. Waterloo
next up: Class sandwiches baby
Critique what does this mean? Oh yes I get to comment on every little detail you wouldn't even care to concern with about food. Not only that but I get to recommend the best sites to eat in the Waterloo Region and that my friends is a lot of places and a lot of food. There are over 400 restaurants in the Waterloo Region and I will pick the best ones to eat at and present to you, only the best.
I will grade them based on the following criteria:
-Customer Service and atmosphere
-Restaurant presentation
-Prices
-Food presentation
-Taste
-Ingredients (Healthy)
The grading of the experience will be out of 5 forks, let the best man win.
Food. You eat it, demolish it, mainline it, scarf it down and devour it. Food is a great love of mine, because there is so much that goes into it, the ingredients, the presentation, quality, how it makes you feel and the list goes on. We've needed food since god knows when..
But food now has become something over the years that people have had a passion for and it's been about time. Yes we all love that stuff our parents made us eat aka brussel sprouts, lima beans and some weird thing we're all to embarrassed to admit that it was made in our own household. Now, we can enjoy, savour and eat what we love because it's fun.
